Sunday Tech Journal (STJ): Sony VR2, Plex data breach, Apple event, DuckDuckGo and etc.
The read you need for major tech news
1. Sony confirmed the release of PS VR2
Sony’s several Twitter and Instagram accounts have tweeted the release timeframe of the upcoming PS VR2. They say that the VR2 will be launching in early 2023.
2. Plex data breach
Just after 2 weeks after the Twilio breach, plex reported a potential data breach. It sent emails to its customers notifying a potential data breach that may have compromised sensitive data like usernames, email addresses and passwords.
The email states, “Yesterday, we discovered suspicious activity on one of our databases. We immediately began an investigation and it does appear that a third-party was able to access a limited subset of data that includes emails, usernames, and encrypted passwords.”
They assure that the passwords leaked are hashed and secured in accordance with the best practices. They also assure that all the financial information is kept safe and credit card details are not stored in their servers at all and are not vulnerable to this attack.
If you have a plex account, immediately reset your password and take certain measures.
3. Apple event date announced
Apple has announced the date for its next event. The event is going to happen on September 7. They will be launching the next generation of iPhones at this event; iPhone 14 series. They may also launch a new Apple watch series 8, new AirPods, iPad and Mac.
So if you are planning to buy an iPhone 13, you better wait for iPhone 14 to launch. Because old iPhones are likely to get a price cut after new iPhones launch.
4. DuckDuckGo privacy email is here
With the amount of tracking taking place on the internet; especially through email, DuckDuckGo has come up with an anti-tracking solution called privacy email.
Using this service, you can create a @duck.com mail id that will forward the emails to your personal mail id. This is not a fully functional email service. Instead, it works as an email forwarder.
They provide two types of Duck addresses.
Personal Duck address: The emails sent to this Duck address will be forwarded to your personal email id. However, all the trackers from the email will be stripped off and they’ll tell how many trackers they have removed, what companies appear to be behind those trackers and etc.
Unique Private Duck address: When you want to try a new website, DDG will detect the email field and generate a unique Duck address (example: hg6h2g@duck.com) so you need not give up your personal email id on a website you’re not sure yet. You can delete these unique duck addresses anytime so can no longer hear from those websites again.

5. Authy accounts compromised in Twilio data breach
We’ve been hearing something about the Twilio breach every week. This week, the company disclosed that the Authy 2FA accounts of 93 users have been compromised by hackers. Hackers managed to re-register these accounts in additional devices. The company says that the access has been removed for these devices immediately. However, Twilio suggest users should review their logins for any suspicious activities.
